When Kerrie-Ann Jones and her husband acquired this home on a subdivided block in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire, it still retained many of its authentic retro options.
‘It was in first condition, complete with silver disco wallpaper for the dining area, yellow and kitchen area, and a cobalt blue toilet,’ suggests Kerrie-Ann.
As lovely as the retro specifics were being, most of the interior was rotten with water problems, meaning Kerrie-Ann experienced to strip nearly all of it back to principles. This was the first project Kerrie-Ann had at any time tried as an owner-builder, and she jumped in head first – with aid from her father and carpenter Nick David of ND Designed.
1st up, Kerrie-Ann made some significant alterations to the format (swapping a area or two there, increasing the most important bed room), and she also prioritised restoring the exterior facade.
Up coming, it was time to devise a fresh new material palette and styling plan, from the ground up.
‘I made the interiors with bespoke specifics, like curved edges for the kitchen island, rangehood and fire,’ Kerrie-Ann explains.
‘It’s texture-wealthy with components these as the walnut veneer in the kitchen and the use of different stone components in the kitchen area, dwelling space hearth and bathroom’ she elaobrates. ‘I like to layer textures still remain inside of a heat neutral color palette. I have curated our dwelling to be layered, with a mix of vintage and modern home furniture and art gathered above the yrs.’
The end result of this careful, textured layering is the palladiana-fashion mosaic flooring in the lavatory, made from large marble offcuts.
‘I had the plan about a few a long time back. I have witnessed it finished on a tiny scale but not often employing massive items,’ suggests Kerrie-Ann. ‘It took 6 months to uncover a tiler and stoner polisher who was keen to do the career!’
But so completely well worth it! We’d go so significantly as to say it’s the pièce de résistance in this dreamy family members pad!
